The Championship needed a game to bring it to life and boy did it get it.
It was widely acknowledged that this year’s All-Ireland Hurling Championship was in need of a titanic clash to bring it to life and it got it today and more.
Galway and Tipperary played out a pulsating clash at headquarters, which the Tribesmen claimed by a point after young Shane Maloney put over the winning score in injury time to secure their passage to an All-Ireland Final with Kilkenny next month.
For Tipperary, Seamus Callanan managed to score a hat-trick and still ended up on the losing side, while Noel McGrath made his first appearance since being diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year and received a heart-warming reception from a huge crowd at Croke Park.
But today was Galway’s day and followers of the county will be on Cloud Nine tonight and for the next few days.
Here’s what Twitter made of a game for the ages.
FULL TIME WE'RE IN THE FINAL Galway 0-26 Tipperary 3-16 (70 + 3 mins) point!!!!!
