The European terrorist attacks are causing a lot of concern.

Following Tuesday’s (March 22) terrorist attacks on Belgium, those behind the upcoming European Championships this summer in France are considering playing some matches behind closed doors.

Giancarlo Abete, the Uefa executive committee vice-president, has said that, although Euro 2016 won’t be cancelled following the latest attacks on Europe, alternative arrangement must be considered:

“Euro 2016 is the kind of event we can’t delay or postpone”, Abete told Radio 24.

“We can’t exclude the possibility of playing behind closed doors as we cannot exclude terrorism.”

In the aftermath of the tragic events in Brussels, Uefa has “reaffirmed its commitment in placing safety and security at the centre of its organisational plans for Euro 2016” for fans planning to travel to this summer’s tournament.

A similar announcement was made following the Paris attacks last November, which claimed the lives of over 130 people, but with the fresh attacks on Belgium, alternative plans like the above may become a distinct possibility.
