Reading to beat Leicester @ 21/20

There may not be a hotter team in Europe than Brian McDermott’s Reading. The Royals have won their last seven on the bounce, with our own Noel Hunt in the sort of form that would merit a look from Trap if we weren’t already laden down with strikers.

The Waterford man has bagged three in his last six games, including two winners, while at the back Reading have conceded only one goal over those seven wins.

Leicester are not too bad away from home but we think Reading will keep their winning run intact for at least one more week.

Ireland to beat Scotland by between 1-12 points @ 6/4

We’ll level with you. We’re nervous about this game. With little for Ireland to play for bar pride, Scotland will be the more motivated team at Aviva Stadium this afternoon. With Paul O’Connell and Sean O’Brien out our forwards look weakened while Scotland look to have hit on a decent enough XV at last.

They’re overdue a win, confident and fighting to save Andy Robinson’s skin. All that said, we just can’t imagine Ireland losing to Scotland at home. Again. So we expect Declan Kidney’s boys to do the business but it will be tight so a winning margin of less than 13 sounds about right to us.

Alex Cuthbert to score a try at any stage (Wales v Italy, 5/6)

Wales will score a few tries against Italy at the Millennium Stadium this weekend, of that there isn’t much doubt. Hindsight could tell us how silly we were to take an odds-on price about any player scoring a try, but we’re happy to do so here and Cuthbert is the one we’ve gone for. Okay, so he’s only scored one try in international rugby so far but he hasn’t played against as leaky a defence as Italy. We expect Wales to score four or five tries, he should get his name on one of them.

Cork -2 to beat Dublin (Dublin v Cork, National Hurling League, 10/11)

Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s second spell as Cork manager has started well and the Leesiders make the journey to the capital to take on Dublin this weekend. We reckon Cork will be a lot better in 2012, and Dublin will be a good bit weaker than last year, so we’re expecting JBM, Sean Og and the lads to have enough to cover the handicap here.
