Give it a shot.
The Irish Footgolf Association is launching The Race To Buenos Aires, an open footgolf competition that will decide who wins the chance to represent Ireland at the Footgolf World Cup in Argentina next January.
Ireland’s newly established international footgolf team finished a respectable third in last year’s inaugural Europe Cup, held in Andalucia.
Starting in Waterford this Saturday, a series of 11 events will be held across Ireland to determine the nation’s finest and most worthy footgolf players.
Competitors will need to compete in at least six of these events, as the winners will be decided by gathering the scores from each competitor’s best six rounds. There are up to six spaces up for grabs in the World Cup squad.
The competition will be a season-long battle, running until September 19 and making use of nearly all of Ireland’s footgolf courses.
Prospective international footgolfers will travel to Waterford, Wexford, Kildare, Dublin, Cork, Mayo and Leitrim to stake their claim for the green jersey.
It’s going to be a big year for Irish footgolf. The 18-hole footee course in Tallaght will also host the ninth stage of this year’s European Footgolf Trophy Tour where 80 of Europe’s top brass will gather to shoot it out.
The sport continues to grow at a rapid rate domestically and IFGA President Ronan Cunningham hopes to have 30 dedicated footgolf courses affiliated to IFGA by 2016.
Entry to each stage of the Tour costs €20. Every individual stage will also have trophies and prizes before the overall champion and best club are crowned at the awards at the end of September
