This butcher in Cushendall is closing for the first time in over 50 years

Tony Cuddihy

This shows the importance of an All-Ireland club final on St. Patrick’s Day.

Donal Kearney has had a butcher’s shop in the Antrim town of Cushendall for more than half a century, and tomorrow marks the first time its doors will have closed in that entire time outside of Christmas Day and St. Stephen’s Day.

Cushendall take on Na Piarsaigh in their first ever All-Ireland Club SHC final and a man who has opened through family weddings and funerals is finally shutting up shop.

His reasoning? There would be nobody left to work in it, or shop in it, anyway.

Wonder if Donal will bump into Liam Neeson?
