It has been confirmed by UFC officials that Phil Davis is out of his UFC 133 bout against Rashad Evans and will be replaced by former long time champion Tito Ortiz.

In one of the most highly improbable stories of the year, ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ managed to rack up his first win in almost five years by taking out top contender Ryan Bader in the first round of their fight at UFC 132.

Ortiz managed to to hold on, and save his career in the process as he was certainly fighting for his UFC survival, and now finds himself in the unlikely position of facing a top contender who is certainly “in the mix” in Dana White speak.

This is also an opportunity for both men to adjust their records having previously fought to a draw way back at UFC 73. Indeed, many people believe Tito was on his way to handing Evans the first loss of his career before a points deduction for grabbing the fence in the second round.

Evans missed out on a title shot against then champion ‘Shogun’ Rua, which paved the way for Jon Jones to take the belt from the Brazilian.

Though it was not officially announced, it was thought that the winner of the original slated main event would earn number one contender status to face the winner of Jon Jones against ‘Rampage’ Jackson.
