They say that you should never go back. Who they are, I have no idea, but they definitely exist and they definitely say it. They said it to Paul Robinson, who has rejected Fabio Capello’s request to be England’s third choice goalkeeper, and they’ve said it to Wes Brown, who has rejected Capello too.

Robbie Keane came back to Tottenham, and that hasn’t really worked out for him. Now he’s linked with a £9million move to Aston Villa. Pascal Chimbonda came back to Spurs too, but his second stay at Lane was fairly brief. The Guadeloupian is currently stuck in the purgatory that is Blackburn Rovers. His Lancashire side are currently set to bid £5million for Fenerbache’s Spanish international striker Dani Guiza, but haven’t much of hope of signing him.

Jermaine Defoe came back, and was somewhat more successful. Peter Crouch, once a Spurs academy player came back too, though at least he had the advantage of not actually playing for them before. Now he’s linked with a comeback some place else. To Liverpool, a team for whom he scored 23 times for in 85 league games. The figure bandied about is £14million. For that price, Harry Redknapp would drive him to Liverpool himself.

If Spurs were to sell Keane and Crouch, that would leave them only with the aforementioned Defoe and Redknapp’s absolute favourite person in the world Roman Pavlyuchenko. That is, unless you count Giovani dos Santos as a striker. We aren’t even sure if Redknapp counts dos Santos as a player, only using him once last season before farming him out on loan to Galatasaray. The talented Mexican is currently linked with AC Milan.

What a Nice striker

Tottenham are currently linked with a move for Nice striker and Stoke and West Ham target Loic Remy. The 23-year-old would cost somewhere in the region of £11million. Also linked with a move to North London is PSG defender Mamadou Sakho, as Arsenal are willing to pay out £8million for the highly rated 20-year-old. Going out is William Gallas who is set to be ridiculously overpaid by his new club Fenerbache. The Turkish club are willing to give the self-proclaimed greatest captain of all-time an staggering £3million a year.

Jason Scotland looks like joining Roy Keane’s Ipswich, a club who currently charge more for their season tickets than Manchester United. Liverpool’s David Ngog is a target for West Brom and Stoke, while Liverpool are willing to bid £2million for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones. Ghana international and social club for people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised IQ test, John Mensah, is set to re-sign for Sunderland on loan with a view to a £4.5million move.

And Blackpool are set to bid £250,000 for 21-year-old Anorthosis Famagusta attacker Giorgis Tofus. The 21-year-old Cypriot managed three goals for his club side last season.

Serie A in a basket

Italian club Cesena are linked with moves for Greek U-21 midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis, and Ghana international Steven Appiah. Palermo are interested in Everton’s Leon Osmon, while Rafa Benitez and Inter Milan are considering bidding €26million for Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano.

SPL in a bucket

Preston’s Stephen Elliot looks likely to sign for Hearts, as does Metz player and American rock-band responsible for such hits as Hold the Line, Rosanna, Africa, and Stranger in Town, Johathon Toto.
