Giovanni Trapattoni has indicated that he is open to offers from other countries as the FAI delay talks over a new contract.
Trap, who has steered Ireland to the top of the Euro 2012 Group B standings, is contracted to the Irish job until the end of the current Euro 2012 qualification campaign.
That means he could be on his way as soon as October, when the qualifiers comes to an end, and whether the veteran Italian is offered a new deal would appear to hinge on qualification for next year’s finals in Poland and Ukraine.
However, it often pays to fret when an Italian tells you there is a “little problem”, and there remains a possibility that he will lead Ireland to Euro 2012 and still be prised away by a lucrative offer from elsewhere.
Quoted in today’s Sunday Times, a surprisingly fluent Trap said, “The FAI have a job to do. They wait and we’ll see what happens with our results.
“When they are sure and convinced we can discuss. There is a little problem – maybe another country comes in. At the moment, the world is open.”
