If any of you out there are still harbouring hopes of Manny Pacquiao fighting Floyd Mayweather then forget about it, as the Almighty has stepped and stopped the fight before it has even started.
We have always hoped that one day Manny Pacquiao would get in the ring with Floyd Mayweather and firstly beat him and in the process end the endless speculation about the fight.
Anyway, we can probably now give up on that dream as the super religious Pacman has been told by God to quit the ring.
“I will not stay long in boxing because He said ‘You have done enough. You have made yourself famous, but this is harmful,’” the eight-time champ told a Filipino radio station at the weekend.
Pacquiao is due to fight Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas in June but we fear that might be last time we see him in action. However, promoter Bob Arum seems to be as confused as the rest of us as to what will happen down the line.
“If I said ‘Yes, I think he’s going to retire,’ I’d be accused of using this to hype up sales,” Arum told Yahoo! Sports on Monday. “The answer is, I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know. When he talks to me, he talks differently, but we haven’t talked in weeks. When I was in the Philippines, we had a lot of religious discussions, but he said nothing that would indicate he is going to retire soon. I’ve learned, though, that when you’re dealing with religious stuff, you never know.”
When it comes to the possibility of a Pacquiao/Mayweather bout, we think we can probably forget about it now as God has spoken.
