To be expected but it’s still bad news for Irish fans.
Irish football fans are a resourceful bunch but when it comes to how they plan on spending their money during an international football tournament, the list of priorities usually reads like this. 1) Match ticket, 2) travel costs, 3) food and drink, 4) ) accommodation?
I’ve included the question mark here because as we’ve all seen before, football fans are more than happy to be creative by sleeping in camper vans/trains/the nearest floor and even more random places.
Supply and demand are two economics principles that usually beat the living sh**e out of fans whenever they decide to visit the host country of a football tournament and Euro ’16 will be no different.
Take a look at the average prices that French hotels are charging on match-days(dark blue) when compared to the 14 days prior to the match (sky blue).
This infographic originally appeared in Le Parisien and it’s certainly eye-opening. Lads, it’s time to put the deposit down on that campervan.
