We featured this report on a potential O’Gara move to Racing Metro earlier on, but since writing the news has been confirmed. Have a gander below for the update…

While it would seem an unlikely re-union between the two out-halves, L’Equipe are reporting that Ronan O’Gara is set to join Racing Metro’s coaching staff next season as a kicking coach.

Speculation has been rife about what the future holds for ROG after an emotional post-match interview in the wake of Munster’s narrow European defeat to Clermont Auvergne at the semi-final stage and this is not the first time he has been linked with a possible move to France.

The paper suggests he will be both a kicking coach and a consultant, helping out Christophe Mombet with the youth set-up while doubling up as a kicking coach to the senior team. And that would mean mentoring the man who has provided him with the stiffest competition for the Irish number 10 position in his career.

The dynamics of this role would be interesting to say the least and we would expect that any kick that Sexton would miss – which will most likely be few and far between – would be swiftly followed by a shot of a brooding ROG in the stand.

How much substance there is to this rumour we don’t know at this stage, but L’Equipe are of the opinion it is more than a distinct possibility.

Watch this space.

UPDATE:

Since writing this article it has been confirmed that ROG is going to be heading to Paris-based Racing Metro as an assistant coach on a two year deal. The Irish Independent confirmed it on Twitter earlier today…

It’s certainly going to make things interesting at the club considering ROG’s and Jonny’s relationship in the past, but we’re sure the two will get on fine now that they’re not competing against each other for a position. What do you think about the news? Let us know over on Twitter.
