Last night’s heroics against Manchester United were the latest example of why Schalke ‘keeper Manuel Neuer is considered one of the world’s best. We pay tribute to the German giant.
Bayern Munich fans would have been positively licking their lips after watching the performance of Manuel Neuer against Manchester United last night.
Although Neuer’s Schalke side fell to a 2-0 defeat and an almost certain exit from the Champions League, it could have been an abject humiliation for the German side were it not for the heroics of the German international ‘keeper between the sticks.
Although United have displayed interest, Bavaria looks like the most likely destination for Neuer after he announced he would not be renewing his contract with his local club in the summer.
Last night, he showed exactly why he is so highly sought after as time after time, he repelled a dominant United side time until being beaten by Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney midway through the second half.

Here’s more footage of Neuer doing what he does best in a Champions League tie with Porto a couple of years back. Some of the saves seem to defy logic and the puppy dog look on one of the Porto player’s faces after being miraculously denied by Neuer is priceless.
The man isn’t entirely infallible, however, as is evident from his clanger against England in the World Cup last summer, although as goalkeeping howlers go, it’s certainly not in the Massimo Taibi category.
