Amir Khan lost his WBA Welterweight title for the second time in seven months last night after being knocked out in devastating fashion by Danny Garcia in Las Vegas.
Khan was defeated by Lamont Peterson in controversial circumstances in Las Vegas back in December, but having had his WBA belt returned to him after Peterson subsequently tested positive for synthetic testosterone, he went and lost it again after being knocked out in the fourth round by his American opponent.
The British boxer was the strong favourite in the run-up to the fight and had even cockily suggested the possibility of taking on Floyd Mayweather in the future, but he had his ass handed to him in Mandalay Bay Events Center as Garcia took the honours with a brutal fourth round knockout.
Khan had won the first two rounds but he was caught by a crushing Garcia left hander towards the end of the third round that knocked him completely for six. Khan was quite obviously out of it but having picked himself off the floor, he just about managed to survive the remaining 14 seconds of the round.
Khan might have been saved by the bell, but it was only delaying the inevitable as Garcia pounced on his clearly groggy opponent from the start of the fourth round and the referee eventually called a halt with less than minute left.
After two defeats on the bounce it remains to be seen where Khan will go from here, but we dare say his head isn’t in any state to think about anything like that today after the punishment he received last night.
Check out the knockout for yourself in the video above.
