Athlone Town and Waterford United played out a humdinger of a match in the midlands last night.
The visitors took a 3-0 lead and were seemingly home and hosed only to see the hosts launch a fantastic comeback to draw level in the second half.
Damien Pender completed his hat-trick late on to ensure a Waterford win but there was no doubt about the goal of the game, scored by Athlone’s Daniel Purdy from about 40 yards out.
The technique truly is reminiscent of David Beckham in his prime and there’s not a ‘keeper around who would have stopped it going in the top corner.
What a strike.
