In a bizarre incident, Don Baylor went over on his leg awkwardly and ended up with a broken femur

Not many people are ever injured during the ceremonial first pitch at Opening Day for baseball in America, but for Angels hitting coach Don Baylor, this freak accident has left him in a pretty bad way.

At first the staff and crowd weren’t too sure of the extent of the injury, hoping that it was maybe a sprain or something minor, but they announced later on that evening that he had fractured his femur and would need to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

The reason his leg was so badly broken was that Baylor suffered from a form of cancer called Multiple Myeloma according to Yahoo! Sports, which creates soft spots in the bone and therefore meant that he was more likely to suffer a break. He carried on working for various teams through the illness, and has become a beloved member of the team at the Angels.

It’s certainly a bad way to start the season for the team, so here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and that ‘Groove’, as he’s known, can get back to the practice field sooner rather than later.
