Video: Betsy Andreu and Irish masseuse Emma O’Reilly react to Lance Armstrong interview

Many of us who stayed up to watch Lance Armstrong’s interview last night were disappointed but for people really hurt by the cycylist, it was a much more painful experience.

As you have probably seen by now, Lance Armstrong admitted to doping in all his Tour de France wins last night to Oprah Winfrey but the rest of the interview was deeply unsatisfying.

His claim that he never doped after 2005 is an eyebrow raiser in light of the USADA report and his belief that he was not a cheat as it was a ‘level-playing field’ is also hard to fathom.

But the worst part for many of us was the dashing of the futile hope that he would fully apologise for his behaviour towards two people he wronged , Betsy Andreu and Emma O’Reilly.

He took Andreu, wife of fellow cyclist Frankie Andreu, to court over a claims she made that Lance admitted doping back in the mid-90s and he refused to speak about the ‘hospital room’ incident in detail with Oprah , drawing this understandably furious reaction from Andreu on CNN last night.

His ‘joke’ about not calling her fat was also spectacularly ill-judged.

As for O’Reilly, she too spoke of Lance’s doping, and how he dodged a failed test back in 1999. He sort of apologised for bullying and suing her last night but as she says above in an appearance on UK TV today, he didn’t go far enough.

Some done Lance, a hell of a lot more to do.
