Yes we know that it happened two days ago, but seeing Wayne Barnes getting smashed in the face with a rugby ball never really gets old, does it?
There wasn’t a whole lot to cheer about in the opening few minutes of Munster’s Heineken Cup clash with Racing Metro on Sunday, but sensing that the crowd needed a bit of geeing up, Ian Keatley decided to smash the ball at referee Wayne Barnes, catching him right in the kisser, knocking him to the floor and in the process immediately lifting the mood of the Thomond Park faithful.
Keatley didn’t mean it of course – or at least he claims he didn’t – but in fairness to Barnes he took it well and the jovial conversation between himself and the Munster physios immediately afterwards was pretty funny too.
