Bragbet is a new social platform that’s about to take the betting world by storm but what’s it all about? Allow us to give you the lowdown.

An awful lot of us who love watching sport like to make it even more interesting with an occasional flutter now and again, but sports betting is an individual pursuit; it’s your money your betting and it’s you and you alone that’s going to win or lose at the end of the day.

But what if you could roll the social element of sports betting and the craic you can have with the lads into one while watching the big game or the big race? That’s what Phil Riordan sought to achieve with Bragbet, a social betting platform that lets you and your mates banter about sports and bet together as a team.

The idea for Bragbet came about when founder and CEO Phil Riordan was abroad on a college rugby tour to the US and we’re as surprised as you that he can remember any detail from a trip abroad with a gang of rugby lads, never mind a plan for a revolutionary betting platform.

When they got home, they found it difficult to stay in touch and Phil realised the need to create a place for ‘just the lads’ to stay in contact and discuss sports and enjoy the banter in real time, which led him to create Bragbet.

BragBet brings online the idea of team betting, which is played in pubs and clubs up and down the country.

Each week a different team member becomes ‘captain’ (watch the more macho members of the group go on a power-trip with the responsibility) and gains the power to decide which bets are placed, while the rest of the team suggest tips and vote on each other’s suggestions.

BragBet expands further on this with team rankings and leaderboards for both captains and tipsters, to prove once and for all who knows sports best – it’s there in black and white lads.

Importantly, BragBet is private. Like the details of a lads’ trip away, it’s just for the lads and the lads only, so you never have to worry about your mother, aunt or girlfriend seeing what you’re saying to your mates, as you would on Facebook.

Betting on sports and a private online space just for the lads, what more could you ask for?

So how do I get involved, we hear you ask?

It just takes four steps to get your team up and running:

•             Create your team

•             Invite friends

•             Put some money in the pot

•             Start betting and win as a team

Simple right?

Bragbet will officially launch at the Punchestown Festival later this month, where the BragBet.com Handicap Hurdle will take place on the opening day of the National Hunt Festival on Tuesday April 23.

Luckily for you, JOE reader, we have five sets of five tickets to give away and if you’d like to be in with a chance of winning one of those sets of tickets, head on over here and we’ll tell you all you need to know.
