Video: Brian O’Driscoll was on the end of a shocking tackle yesterday

We don’t like to see anyone on the end of a dump/tip tackle but we really don’t want to see BOD on the end of one.

With less than 10 days to go until Warren Gatland names his Lions squad we remain hopeful that a fair few Irish will get the nod. One who is surely guaranteed a spot is former captain Brian O’Driscoll.

So we imagine Gatland’s heart was in his mouth yesterday when he saw one of his probable starting Test centres get dumped to the ground with some force in Italy yesterday.

Leinster played Zebre yesterday and as well as seeing Jonny Sexton get back to playing after a long lay-off the main talking point was Mauro Bergamasco’s very dangerous ‘tackle’ on BOD.

With the ball long gone, and with BOD never touching it, the Italian international picked up the centre and drove him into the turf. Luckily there was no harm done but the angry reaction of the Leinster man tells you how he felt about the tackle.

The Italian wasn’t punished at the time but he may yet if the citing commissioner decides to go after him for his very dangerous play.

Leinster won handy enough in the end, 41-22, and BOD was none the worse for the slam to the turf. For the great man to miss this Lions tour would be too cruel so let’s hope he doesn’t receive another one of these between now and mid-June.
