Brian O’Driscoll was pretty amazing on the pitch yesterday. He was pretty good off it too in his post-match interview.

We don’t know how we would react if we had just won our third Heineken Cup. Three stars on a scratch card are usually enough for us to pull Marco Tardelli-like celebrations around the living room, never mind getting three stars on your shirt.

But as you probably guessed, Brian O’Driscoll is a little bit cooler than us. The legendary centre collected his third Heineken Cup medal yesterday and not only was he calm and composed afterwards, he also took time to think of his injured team-mates and send a message for next season, all in just over a minute.

Grabbed by Sky’s Will Greenwood on the Twickenham turf, O’Driscoll was asked to put what he done in context and he was quick to point out that this team wanted to ‘build a dynasty’ and that they are only part of the way there and they were ‘hungry for more’. This was only 10 minutes after winning the trophy. Scary stuff and we wouldn’t back against them now doing the hat-trick in Dublin.

Not only that but rather than reflect on his own, fairly epic performance, and comeback from injury, BOD reminded everyone that he had to miss the group stages, asked for credit for those that had done the work in his absence and made special mention of Eoin O’Malley and Luke Fitzgerald, who were ruled out of the final by serious injuries.

It was as classy as his passing and as well thought out as any of Leinster’s magic moves on the day.

For any Leinster fan just waking up this should keep you in good spirits. For any fans of other teams, it might be a bit depressing.
