We wouldn’t go booking flights to Vegas just yet.
Conor McGregor’s title shot against Jose Aldo can’t come quick enough for UFC fans, but we’re going to have to bide our time for a little while yet.
It was originally thought that the fight would take place in Las Vegas in May, but, as was suggested by McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh earlier this week, that looks unlikely at this stage.
McGregor himself, in an interview with USA Today Sports, has now revealed that July is a likelier date for the meeting with Aldo, saying that it was “still a little bit in the air”.
He added that a couple of issues, mostly regarding pay-per-view, is what is preventing a fight in Ireland, where he says a stadium was ready to stage the much-anticipated bout.
McGregor was speaking in Glendale, Arizona, having been invited down by the UFC to sample the buzz ahead of Superbowl XLIX on Sunday night.
It’s also interesting to hear his views on the NFL compared to rugby and on his capacity for self-promotion, which, he says, is “part of the game”.
