If you weren’t privileged enough to be at Richmond Park last night, check out Chris Forrester’s exquisite goal in St. Pat’s demolition of champions Shamrock Rovers.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Forrester’s effort wouldn’t have looked out of place on any stage and although it was being described on Twitter last night as a Messi-esque lob, to us it was more reminiscent of Karel Poborsky’s famous looping effort in Euro ’96.
It was not only the finish itself that was impressive – and boy was it impressive – but the backheel from Christy Fagan to set him up was equally breathtaking to watch.
Forrester, only 19, had already scored a cracker from long range and on the evidence of last night’s performance, it won’t be long until clubs from across the water are falling over themselves to secure his signature.
Fagan also struck twice in what was a thumping 5-1 victory over the reigning champions and favourites to regain the title, who haven’t been humiliated like this in a long time.
As for Pat’s, this performance will live in the memory for a long time, particularly Forrester’s beautiful effort. Check it out for yourself in the video above.
Our hats are tipped to Balls.ie and Damien O’Brien for this one.
