It was the fight the world was waiting to see… or not, but if you really want to see David Haye’s knockout of Dereck Chisora last night, come this way.

Heavyweight boxing ain’t exactly in a great place at the minute and rarely has a fight attracted as much ridicule as the bout between the two British boxers at Upton Park last night, coming as it did after the ridiculous confrontation between the pair following Chisora’s defeat at the hands of Vitali Klitschko in Munich in February.

If that squabble, which appeared to have been completely orchestrated, wasn’t bad enough, Haye was also coming into the fight with memories of his limp defeat to Wladimir Klitschko 12 months ago – which he subsequently blamed on a manky toe – still fresh in the memory.

He achieved some form of redemption with a fifth round KO of Chisora last night, having been troubled occasionally during the opening four rounds.

The fifth round was the first that Haye really started to get on top of his opponent and he made the most of his opportunity by first knocking him down and then landing a succession of punches once Chisora rose from the canvass to secure a knockout victory with a second of the fight remaining.

Too much water has gone under the bridge for this victory to completely repair The Hayemaker’s reputation, but it was a fairly clinical display, albeit against a man who has now lost four of his last five fights.

Check out the knockout for yourself in the video above.
