Damien Duff doesn’t get a look in? Controversial.
Picking all-time XIs is often a task that takes many hours and involves a lot of arguments amongst mates in a pub, but Paul Ince and Jamie Carragher appear to have got it down to a fine art.
A few months’ back, the pair picked their all-time Liverpool and Manchester United combined XI for Carlsberg and ahead of the Ireland v England game this weekend, they’ve done likewise for the Boys in Green.
The fact that both Carragher and Ince are impartial probably helps their selection in that they’re less afraid to make some controversial calls that a die-hard Irish fan might baulk at.
There are some big calls here to be fair and to be honest, most of them are made by Carragher.
Damien Duff is probably the most high-profile omission, Richard Dunne and Shay Given might not be happy either and Johnny Giles’ absence is more likely down to the fact that neither Ince or Carragher would have seen him play too often.
Still, it’s a half-decent looking XI all the same; what about that for a central midfield?
