Mike Ross on Leinster’s Heineken Cup triumph, Saturday’s Magners League final test against Munster – and taking one for the team.
Ross & Co go in search of a historic Heineken Cup/Magners League double when they travel to Thomond Park to take on their old provincial rivals in Saturday’s Grand Final (kick off 5.05pm).
Joe Schmidt’s side will be aiming to become the first side to win both competitions in the same season and Leinster have no fresh injury concerns following Saturday’s dramatic 33-22 victory over Northampton in Cardiff.
Munster finished 13 points ahead of the pack in the regular season, losing only three of their 22 matches before seeing off Ospreys in the semi finals and victory on Saturday would be their tenth in succession in the competition.
Tony McGahan’s men ended a run of five straight defeats to Leinster with a 24-23 win last time out and they will be quietly confident of lowering the European champions’ colours on Saturday evening.
It remains to be seen whether Leinster will be at their best so soon after their Millennium Stadium heroics – with their celebrations having included a beer-soaking of celebrity fan Pat Kenny at the weekend.
