Video: Man Utd duo Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole linked-up for this brilliant goal 16 years ago today

"Fantastic goal by Manchester United..."

“Fantastic goal by Manchester United…”

It’s a rare sight in modern football to see managers use an out and out forward partnership but in the 1998/99 season, the goals from the red hot duo of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke helped guide Manchester United to a historic treble.

The strikers had an almost telepathic understanding on the pitch and their defining moment as a partnership arguably came in the Nou Camp during an epic 3-3 draw with Barcelona.

The night started poorly for United when Sonny Anderson scored after just 49 seconds but Yorke equalised on 25 minutes with a well-taken shot.

This goal on 53 minutes gave United the lead and it’s since gone down in history as one of the best goals that has ever been scored by a strike duo in the modern era. Yorke bagged another on the night but the brilliant Brazilian Rivaldo struck twice to ensure another epic 3-3 draw between the two sides in that year’s Champions League group stages.

This goal though.
