Manchester City stars Gareth Barry and Gael Clichy think that the upcoming Dublin Super Cup is the ideal preparation for the new season.

City’s galaxy of stars will roll into town at the end of this month along with Inter Milan and Celtic for the inaugural Dublin Super Cup to take place at the Aviva Stadium.

A team selected from the best players in the Airtricity League will also be in attendance and Irish fans are being urged to support them as they go up against some of the world’s best footballers.

The occasion will be given an extra gloss by the number of trophies on display with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Celtic all confirming that they will bringing the trophies won in their domestic cup competitions to Dublin, while the Nerazzurri will also be parading the World Club Cup trophy they won in Abu Dhabi back in December.

Speaking about Manchester City’s visit to Dublin, manager Roberto Mancini said: “I’m delighted that we have managed to bring the F.A. Cup back to Manchester City — our first major trophy since 1976.

“We now look forward to taking the F.A. Cup to Dublin with us when we play in the Dublin Super Cup so we can celebrate with supporters in Ireland. Now we have also secured qualification for the Champions League, the tournament will form an important part of our preparations for next season as we will face one of Europe’s biggest teams in Inter Milan.

“We’re really excited about the tournament, and of playing in the fantastic new Aviva Stadium.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon, added: “I am delighted that we will be able to take the Scottish Cup with us to Ireland for the Dublin Super Cup weekend. It has been a long time since our fans in Ireland have seen the full first-team in action and the fact that we will now be able to show them the Scottish Cup trophy should make it even more special.

“I really hope as many fans as possible from both Ireland and the UK will be able to come along and support us at the Aviva and watch some of the world’s best players in action.”
