He must have been itching to say that.
To say that the road to Euro 2016 was eventful would be one of the biggest understatements of the year because like every Irish qualification campaign, this one had more ups and downs than a fiddler’s elbow.
Martin O’Neill got the job done though and he has delivered on what he was hired to do but the former Celtic, Villa and Sunderland boss hasn’t been exempt from criticism also, especially from the RTÉ panel. You may remember O’Neill being slated for a defensive approach against Germany in Gelsenkirchen, the dreary tactics in Glasgow or his omission of Wes Hoolahan from the starting XI in various qualifiers.
Well, whether it was building up or not, the Derry man had the last laugh at the RTÉ soccer pundits’ expense at the RTÉ Sports Awards on Saturday evening.
Take a look.

It seems that O’Neill has won a fair few new admirers after that remark. COYBIG!
TV performance of the year goes to @FAIreland boss Martin O'Neill for the most polite shade throwing ever #rtesportawards
