Daniel Miguel Alves Gomes, or Danny as he might be better known to you and me, is one of Zenit St. Petersburg’s big name foreign players and an international for Portugal, although you won’t remember him from the Euros since he missed them through injury.
That’s not the only thing he missed though as he completely fluffs this chance for Zenit against Basel in the Europa League tonight.
Thankfully, they were already 1-0 up at the time thanks to a goal from Axel Witsel, but the Swiss team came into this game two goals up from the first leg, so this would have been a great help to get them level.
As it turned out, this miss, combined with a penalty that was saved from Roman Shirokov, meant Basel eliminated them. Oh Danny boy indeed.
