Home favourite, and ninth seed, Sam Stosur bowed out of the Australian Open today as her serve collapsed. This was her worst effort by far.
Aussie Sam Stosur is one of the best servers in the women’s game but in her third round match with Zheng Jie her game, and serve, fell apart.
Stosur led the third set 5-2, up a double break, and contrived to lose it 7-5. Afterwards she admitted it was a choke.
In a match where she had 56 errors and nine double faults, this was easily the worst as the ball flies not just outside the service box, but outside the baseline.
It makes our pathetic attempts at imitating Federer and Nadal in the local park look sort of okay.
