He definitely got some stick from his former fans…
The issue of abuse being directed from football fans towards players on the pitch is a topical one today on the 20th anniversary of Eric Cantona’s kung-fu kick but this incident in the match between Standard Liege and Anderlecht is just as strange.
Belgian international Steven Defour was once a darling of the Standard fans, he played for the club for five years, but the midfielder recently committed a big ‘no-no’ in their eyes after joining Standard’s fierce rivals Anderlecht following a spell at Porto.
It seems that the fans in the Stade Maurice Dufrasne aren’t the most forgiving bunch after they unveiled a gigantic and gruesome banner depicting the midfielder being decapitated before the match this afternoon.

Defour’s day went from bad to worse when he was sent-off for reacting angrily to the tifo.
Take a look as he kicks the ball aimlessly into the stands only to be shown a second yellow and a subsequent red-card for violent conduct, we’re not going to even point out the irony.
