Video: The biggest rugby hits of the week are here and, unsurprisingly, Paul O’Connell makes the list

We are pretty sure POC put the fear of God into Ben McCalman…

We are pretty sure POC put the fear of God into Ben McCalman…

We love a good rugby hit here in JOE and we especially love when Paul O’Connell makes a big game-defining hit in the last few minutes of a close match against Australia. Although that doesn’t happen too often it must be said…

We’re not going to lie, we looked something like this when the final whistle blew on Saturday…*

The video itself does baffle us a small bit; we can’t for the life of us understand why Jack Nowell’s effort made the list, for example, as his carry is decent but not spectacular and is more of a poor attempted tackle than a big hit.

We also think Paul O’Connell could easily have topped the list rather than finish in second place, but maybe that is just our Irish bias. We are also judging Dan Biggar for going so high in the tackle against Julian Savea. We all know how much of a beast Savea is (just ask Israel Dagg) and Biggar should have tackled him at the shoelaces.

*We may have let ourselves go during the off-season of 2001 and never quite shook off the extra pounds…
