Well it turns out there was much more drama in the weigh-in and post-fight press conference than there was in the 12 rounds of Saturday night’s world heavyweight title fight in Munich.
Vitali Klitschko, the 40-year-old champion, looked old and frail but still did enough to take a unanimous points decision against British loose-canon challenger Dereck Chisora.
We can’t decide whether Chisora is a master marketeer or a complete idiot, but having succeeded in capturing the attention of sports fans the world over with his weigh-in slap across Klitschko’s cheek – and then by spitting water in the face of Vitali’s brother, corner-man and fellow heavyweight champ Wladimir moments before the start of Saturday’s fight – he also whet the appetite for future in-the-ring offerings with his antics after Saturday’s bout.
During the routine post-fight press conference, Chisora and fellow British heavyweight David Haye engaged in a lengthy verbal spat … and then things got physical.
As you can see from the video below, Chisora accused Haye of “glassing” him – before issuing a death threat that didn’t exactly sound hollow.
