VIDEO: The Irish rugby squad pay tribute to, and take the mick out of, ‘living legend’ Paul O’Connell

“I know Paul years. He played with my father, that’s how old he is.”

Paul O’Connell was the subject of many deserving tributes when it sadly became clear he had played his last game in an Ireland jersey following Ireland’s victory over France at the Rugby World Cup.

With a World Cup quarter-final against Argentina occupying their minds last week (no need to mention the war any further) his teammates in the current Irish rugby squad never got the chance to pay a proper tribute.

That wrong has been righted in a new video for 3 Ireland in which a number of current Irish players sum up what makes Paul O’Connell the player and the man that he is.

The tributes are genuine but the Irish players were never going to miss an opportunity to take the p*ss out of him either.

No more than the rest of us, they’re going to miss the big fella in a green jersey.
