Video: The mystery man Amir Khan blames for Peterson defeat

It’s fair to say that Amir Khan didn’t take his recent defeat to Lamont Peterson lightly. But he may have a point when he suggests that there was some skullduggery at hand.

Khan lost the fight in Washington last month on an extremely narrow margin, with two judges declaring that Peterson was the winner by a single point (113-112) and the other claiming that Khan won by a 115-110 scoreline. Khan had also been deducted two points for pushing in rounds seven and 12.

The boisterous Bolton boxer has constantly claimed since that the result of the fight was unjust and yesterday made his 413,000 + Twitter followers aware of a video that points out the presence of a mystery man that he claims affected the eventual result of the fight.

Khan is miffed about the man with the hat and blue shirt (see video above), who takes up a seat alongside WBA supervisor, Michael Welsh (grey hair, red tie) between the first and second rounds.

At various stages during the fight, the so-called mystery man appears to influence the judges, with bits of paper being passed between them on two separate occasions. Khan’s suspicions have been further inflamed by the fact that the judges seemed to take unusually long to decide on a winner, even if the outcome was particularly close in the end.

Khan is determined not to let the matter lie and posted a series of tweets about the matter on his Twitter page yesterday (see them all here), including links to the video above, questions about the credibility of the judges and, interestingly enough, musings on the best cheesecakes and chocolate cakes in Bolton.

Gilberto Mendoza, the president of the WBA, has told BBC Sport that Khan’s allegations will be examined and that a response would be made within the next 24 hours. The IBF, on the other hand, are refusing to budge on the matter, saying that “with regards to the IBF master scorecard we can assure that it has not been tampered with”.

Khan may be a tad arrogant and annoying at times, but it seems as if he has a case to make on this occasion. So what do you think? Should Khan get a rematch? Have a look at the video above and judge for yourself.
