The first Classic of the horse-racing season on Saturday saw potential fulfilled in the most thrilling of spectacles, as Frankel obliterated the field in a mesmerising show of superiority.
The performance had the racing journos clambering over themselves to acclaim Henry Cecil’s colt.
This wasn’t a race, this was an annihilation. Frankel left his rivals trailing in his wake from the first strides of Newmarket’s straight mile, making a field consisting of the best thoroughbreds of their generation look like a load of low-grade nags in a Ballinrobe bumper.
But it’s the pictures – and the breathless, can-hardly-believe-what-I’m-seeing commentary of Racing UK’s Ian Bartlett – which really do it justice. Enjoy.
