There are a few South Africans in the Leinster squad already and another is about to join, according to reports in South Africa. Introducing the fearsome looking lock Quinn Roux.
Two South African’s were instrumental in helping Leinster to yet another Heineken Cup this season, and it is no surprise that both were forwards. Richardt Strauss and Heinke van der Merwe, the latter from the bench, added grunt to the guile of the backs and now, according to a report on Rugby 365, another hefty Springbok is about to add his considerable bulk to the Leinster pack.
Here’s Quinn Roux. He’s 21, 6’5″ and almost 19 stone. He currently plays for the Stormers in Super Rugby. He has made only one appearance for the Stormers, with most of his play to date coming for Western Province in the Vodacom Cup. The video above is a collection of his best bits in that competition and it includes some big tackles and showcases that he can handle the ball pretty well too.
He certainly looks impressive to us and with Brad Thorn now gone, Leinster could do with another second row.
Enjoy the clips and based on this we can’t wait to see him line-out for Leinster. Some more of his play to date is in the below video.
By the way, the same piece suggests that his team-mate, winger Danie Poolman, is about to join Connacht.
