Rory McIlroy has been having a hell of a year with two Majors on his mantlepiece in Holywood but today’s second round at the Tour Championship may be one of the more memorable days for very different reasons.
McIlroy smashed a bit of a wayward tee shot at the 14th and something really remarkable happened. The Northern Irishman’s ball flew into the trees, bounced around a bit and then dropped straight into the pocket of a spectator who was standing close by.
The guy stood still until Rory’s arrived at the scene and everyone had a good old laugh at the situation…
McIlroy actually ended up parring the hole after a nearby rules official allowed him have a free drop on the spot where the ball fell into spectator’s pocket. How much better would it have been if he had to play it from your man’s pocket? We reckon around one million times!
