36 people were arrested and 16 people were taken to hospital as a result of the latest clashes between English and Russian fans in Lille on Wednesday night.

Trouble flared up again despite a number of measures having been taken by the authorities to prevent it, including the deployment of 4,000 additional police officers, an alcohol ban and warnings to the English and Russian federations about the behaviour of their supporters at the tournament.

UEFA released a statement in response to the latest disturbances, saying that it “regrets the skirmishes in Lille last night”.

“Police made several arrests, & were quick to restore order, keep situation under control,” the statement added.

England take on Wales in Lens, approximately 40km southwest of Lille, at 2pm today.
