It was a truly horrific injury…

French gymnast Samir Aït Said was desperately unfortunate to suffer an awful double leg break while competing at the Rio Olympics.

Aït Said is currently recovering in the Vitoria Barra Hospital in Rio and despite the severity of the injury, he is showing remarkable positivity as he begins his long slog of rehabilitation.

Yesterday he posted this message in French on Facebook.

It translates to: “The operation went very well and I can be back on my feet quite soon. It’s gone well and I’m happy.

“I will be going back to the arena soon to cheer on my friends. And I can add to the support with my blue, white and red cast. Come on France!

“We have to be behind the boys in the general competition and in the vault.

“They managed to get going after my fall, which must not have been easy. They were fighters, so lads I say to you, be strong, be good, I’m with you and I send you all big hugs and believe me – the Tokyo 2020 adventure is still a reality.”

It has emerged today that Aït Said has had an operation and is now walking with the aid of a zimmerframe and has stated his desire to be ready for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Legend…
