We can’t see this catching on in the inter-county game.
Apart from extreme fist-pumping following the awarding of a free in hurling, flamboyant celebrations aren’t exactly common in the GAA.
Joe Brolly, of course, used to famously blow kisses to the crowd after scoring a goal but apart from that, a pointed finger in the air is about the most enthusiastic celebration you’ll come across.
There was a welcome break from the norm in a Division 3 Championship encounter between Melvin Gaels and Gortlettragh in Leitrim over the weekend, when Melvin Gaels ‘keeper Paul Rooney came up the field to kick a ’45.
After putting it straight over the black spot with a sweet strike, Rooney decided to celebrate on his way back to goals with a cartwheel that drew much appreciation from the sidelines.
Funnier still is the reaction of the fan who can’t quite believe that Paul’s effort was actually going to go over the bar at the very start of the clip…
Forget GAA, Paul should have been in the gymnastics in Rio with an effort like that.
10/10 all round.
