Are Leinster in talks to bring Wallaby Drew Mitchell to the RDS next season? The Aussie press think so.

One team who are not short of attacking talent is Leinster. From Rob Kearney to Isa Nacewa, Luke Fitzgerald to Fergus McFadden, the (still) reigning European champs have a back line the envy of most.

But if reports from Australia are to be believed, it could get a whole lot stronger. The Sydney Morning Herald are reporting that Australian international Drew Mitchell is in talks with Leinster, and Toulon, about a summer move.

Mitchell is 28 now but he has played over 60 Tests for the Wallabies and was second top-try scorer at the 2007 World Cup. He has suffered some bad injuries since then, most notably to an ankle, but as a player who can play on the wing and at full-back, he would be a valuable addition.

Mitchell is out of contract with the Waratahs at the end of the Super 15 season and a bit like the situation the IRFU found themselves in with Jonny Sexton, the Aussie rugby authorities have yet to open negotiations with Mitchell.

Toulon obviously have very deep pockets and the Sydney Morning Herald also say that one other Top 14 club are interested in Mitchell. If a bidding war develops Leinster may well be priced out but it is definitely one to watch.

In the mean time, here’s a look at what Mitchell can do.
