Who were the most important Fantasy Football players on the season’s opening day?

Did you have any of these?

Carl Kinsella

Did you have these guys in your team?

Every weekend there will be players who will give you the good kind of surprise and the bad kind of surprise. The opening day of the 2015/2016 Premier League season was no exception, so we’re giving you the lowdown on the most influential players from today’s games.

1) Thibaut Courtois

Courtois is the proud owner of last season’s safest pair of hands, so to see him have such a shocker on the first day of the season is sure to have upset a lot of Fantasy Football aficionados. Courtois actually ended up on -2 points for the day, having been sent off early in the second half – but not before conceding his clean sheet to an Andre Ayew goal. Over a quarter of all Fantasy Football players lost 2 points just by picking Courtois.

2) Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker is a pacy full-back who defends well, attacks well and has been known to score a screamer or two in his time. He scored the first goal of this season in today’s early kick-off, but unfortunately he put it into his own net. Anybody including Kyle Walker in their team would be expecting some sweet assists from the man, including the safety points you want from your back line… He ended up on a big fat zero today thanks to his mishap.

3) Marc Albrighton

We’re going to guess that the number of people who had Albrighton on their bench vastly outnumbers the number of people who had him in their first team. Available at £5.0, Albrighton was today’s best value-for-money as well as today’s top scorer with 13 points. The winger featured heavily in Leicester’s goal-fest with Sunderland, bagging assists and a goal. Albrighton was only picked by 0.3% of Fantasy Football players.

4) Riyad Mahrez

The same goes for Riyad Mahrez. Only 2% of players picked the Leicester midfielder, but he shone today, bagging two goals for the foxes and 12 points for the lucky few who picked him online. Whether or not Leicester continue this fine run of goal-scoring form remains to be seen but the King Power Stadium is home to the stars of Fantasy Football for this week at least.

5) Damien Delaney

Another bargain more likely to be on your bench. Damien Delaney got up from the back to score in Crystal Palace’s win today, propelling himself up to 8 points. He was the day’s highest scoring defender, and could have been bought at the low, low price of £4.5. Only 0.3 per cent of Fantasy Football players had the keen foresight to pick him.
