There’s a strange and difficult question doing the rounds in JOE HQ today.
‘Which would you rather? Ireland to win the European Championships or you to win this Friday’s €160m EuroMillions jackpot?”
We all love football, but we’re a selfish bunch so most of us picked the EuroMillions. The next question was ‘if you had that €160m and were to put together a team from players who will be playing at the euros, who would you buy?’
Here’s our answer…
All market values are taken from http://www.transfermarkt.ie/
GK – Hugo Lloris – France – €22m
You’re only as strong as your goalkeeper and the Spurs stopper is one of the best out there.
RB – Stephan Lichtsteiner – Switzerland – €9m
The Swiz player is probably the best right back in the tournament… although we have no idea what he’s doing in this photo.
LB – Robbie Brady – Ireland – €6m
One of the heroes of our playoff against Bosnia. We couldn’t possibly leave Robbie out, particularly at such a bargain price.
CB – Raphaël Varane – France – €25m
The best young defender in Europe slots in beside one of the best veterans.
CB – Giorgio Chiellini – Italy – €15m
This man has won virtually every trophy in world football and is undoubtedly one of the best defenders of all-tine.
CM – Nani – Portugal – €10m
He disappointed for Manchester United but never lets his country down.
CM – Stephan El Shaarawy – Italy – €11m
The phrase mercurial was invented for this player. A world beater on his day.
CM – Lassana Diarra – France – €4m
Diarra is a fine player who is back to his best playing for Marseilles.
F – Jon Walters – Ireland – €3.5m
We were never going to leave him out, were we?
ST – Olivier Giroud – France – €24m
Although he can be frustrating, the Arsenal man definitely has an eye for goal and we think he would perfectly into this team.
ST – Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Sweden – €30m
As the good man once said, ‘without Zlatan, there is no party.’
Total= €159.5m… you will even have some money left over for jerseys and half-time oranges. What changes would you make? Tell us in the comments below.
Tonight’s EuroMillions Jackpot is an estimated €160 Million. Play EuroMillions online now or in-store until 7.30pm on Friday 20th November 2015, and make this weekend last forever.
