You can relive one of Anthony Foley’s finest moments on RTÉ this Saturday

Alan Loughnane

Their tribute to a legend…

Munster won the Heineken Cup in 2006 in what was a thrilling occasion for a team who’d fallen short at the final hurdle in the past.

They overcame a much fancied Biarritz side who had the likes of Imanol Harinordoquy, Serge Betson and Dimitri Yachvili within their ranks.

Tries for Trevor Halstead and Peter Stringer as well as 13 points from the boot of Ronan O’Gara were enough to give Munster a 23-19 victory.

Anthony Foley, whose funeral takes place tomorrow, was captain of Munster at the time and had the huge honour of holding the Heineken Cup trophy aloft in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

To celebrate Foley and his magnificent achievements and contribution to Irish rugby, RTÉ will show the full game on Saturday evening so viewers can enjoy one of the career highlights of a servant who gave so much to rugby in Ireland.

It will be well worth tuning into, it’s a game that can be watched over and over.
