Ahead of tonight’s announcement, here are all the juiciest Apple rumours

JOE

It’s Christmas Eve for all those who worship at the altar of Apple.

At 6pm tonight Irish time Apple are going to take the stage at Cupertino, California and give the scarf-wearing masses what they have waited so long for.

As ever, the last few months have been filled with rumours and speculation. Of which we don’t know nor can we confirm anything. However, we can take what information we have from credible sources and give you a flavour of the things we expect to see.

So what do we expect the boys at Apple have in store for us?

iPhone 6

We all know this is going to happen. Almost as certain are the specs but we’re not going to say that just yet.

What do we expect it to have?

  • Shatter proof Sapphire glass display
  • 2GB RAM
  • 8 megapixel camera
  • 1080p video at 60 frames per second
  • Four sizes of memory 16gb, 32gb, 64gb, 128gb,
  • NFC (Near Field Communication)
  • Two Sizes (4.7 inch and a 5.5inch display)
  • Apple A8 chip running iOS 8

We would be seriously excited to see some of these features in an iPhone especially NFC technology which Samsung first introduced to its Galaxy 3 in 2012. The two different sizes would give iPhone fans a choice they have never had before but we do wonder if a 5.5 inch phone isn’t a little too big. We are very interested to see what they will do with iOS 8 after only relatively recently introducing iOS 7.

The 2GB of RAM paired with the Apple A8 chip should hugely boost the speed of the iPhone 6 even on the iPhone 5s. What we want to see from the new iPhone launch is one killer feature that changes the game again. Since Steve Jobs’ death Apple haven’t exactly pushed the envelope of innovation that they once become famous for. Now is their opportunity.

As for what it looks like we refer to the better guidance of Jonathan Morrison at TldToday. Below are some shot from his video on the dummy version of the iPhone 6 which seems to gain credibility through the fact that it fits with the iPhone 6 cases that have already been produced. Case manufacturers usually get a dummy version of the device so they can have products ready for the day the device goes on sale.

iWatch

Another huge rumour doing the rounds is that we might also see for the first time the iWatch. If this is true it will prove to be Apple’s first foray into wearable tech. Given the fact that Apple’s first foray into other fields like mobile phones or tablet computing blew the competition wide open everyone is very excited to see what Tim Cook and his team can do in this field.

Again specs on this device are simply speculation at the moment but they are said to include NFC, wireless charging and sapphire glass anti scratch display. Obviously this will be the first time that wireless charging is included in an Apple device and this could also be a feature in the iPhone 6, however the dummy model has an adapter point.

Rumours circulating expect the iWatch to be tethered to your iPhone and that all functionality of the device would be an extension of your phone. This is a cool idea but we would also like to see the iWatch (if it were to exist) to have some more autonomy and to function as a device by itself with the added option of tethering to the smartphone after.

As for what it might look like designer Todd Hamilton has given our favourite impression of what the device might look like. Take a peak below.
