Gamers everywhere are chomping at the bit to get their hands on the Playstation Vita upon launch this Wednesday and now the console has a seemingly confirmed AAA title.

Though the PSP successor has received a relatively lukewarm reception, sales-wise, in Japan, it is thought that launch titles such as WipEout 2048 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss will be much more suited to the tastes of European and US gamers. For both regions, there’s surely no bigger series than Call of Duty.

According to Sony’s new senior vice president of Playstation brand marketing, Guy Longworth, Activision’s military shooter will be heading to the handheld platform later this year.

“In the Autumn, [my kids] are really looking forward to Call of Duty on Vita,” he told GameTrailers [via Gamasutra], “and that’s going to be an absolute game changer for the platform.”

Regarding the initial sales of the console, Longworth said that Sony envision that the Playstation Vita will have a lifecycle of between 5-10 years.

“If you listen to gamers, and you listen to the response people have had, who’ve actually got their hands on this thing, it’s been just a tremendous response – way ahead of our expectations actually,” said Longsworth.

“We see this as a five to 10 year platform, so we’ll judge the success of this in 12, 24, 36 months. We expect to have a great launch, but it’s really in 12 or 24 months we’ll know how successful it’s been.”

Expect a JOE hands-on review of the Playstation Vita hardware itself and some of the launch line-up in the coming days.
