We always knew that FIFA 12 was going to be a big seller but the news today that the game has become the biggest selling sports video game of all time was still a shock.
The announcement came from UK retail monitor Chart-Track after the game topped the UK all formats chart for the fifth week running. In fact, the game had actually topped the charts two times previous for its initial launch.
“The five week run is the joint second best run of any FIFA title although it has a long way to go to beat FIFA Road to the World Cup 98, which had a record 11 weeks in a row at No.1,” said Chart-Track.
“It has already made more money than any other FIFA title or indeed any other sports title to date.”
The success of FIFA‘s latest iteration surely puts to bed any perceived sales war between EA’s title and it’s long-held football rival Pro Evolution Soccer, equally since EA claims that the current FIFA title outsold that of Pro Evolution Soccer‘s latest at a rate of 25:1.
