If you’ve ever expressed an opinion on anything at any time absolutely anywhere on the internet, you’ve probably had first had contact with a troll.
As much as we love the world wide web and the infinite amount of cat videos available on there, there do seem to be some people who go on there just to argue and abuse, and they can sometimes take the fun out of leaving our opinion about that timeless cat video.
Google are well aware of this issue, and have just launched Perspective, an A.I. program that scans online comments for “toxicity”.
The company behind the softward told The Washington Post that they wanted to help website publishers to “host robust debates and … help people stay online without having to read every bit of abuse hurled their way.”
Despite still being in the early development stages, some major publications such as the New York Times, The Guardian and The Economist are already using Perspective on their sites.
