Google Maps will soon become a whole lot easier to use for everybody

Great news for anyone who’s ever been stuck in the back arse of nowhere.

Even though we haven’t had the luxury for too long, it’s scary to think of how we actually found out how to get somewhere we’ve never been to before the internet and satellite navigation.

Actual printed maps served a purpose back then and in some desperate situations, we had to swallow our pride and actually ASK somebody for directions. The shame of it all.

Nowadays, Google Maps pretty much looks after us whenever we need direction, apart from in areas which have no internet connection and there are a lot of places in rural Ireland, for example, where said Internet connection would be patchy at best.

Soon, however, there will be no need for an Internet connection because Google Maps will be available in offline mode, allowing users to download maps, see reviews of venues and even get voice directions to where they want to go.

The availability of Google Maps offline was announced at Google’s annual conference for software developers late last week.

“With offline maps, you won’t need to suck down expensive data or have super reliable connectivity every time you want to navigate somewhere,” said Jen Fitzpatrick, Google’s vice president of engineering.

No excuses now lads.
